Brayden Leyva is originally from the small agricultural town of Porterville, California. He grew up with three siblings, two younger sisters and one older brother, and a pet rottweiler named Koda. In 2017, Brayden moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA for his undergraduate degree. He graduated with a degree in Biology and Professional Writing and continued studying at UCLA for his master’s degree in Integrative Biology and Physiology. He is currently a Science Specialist at a private school in Westwood where designs and implements an engaging and rigorous science curriculum for students from kindergarten to sixth grade. In LA, he has two cats: a Sphynx named Gatsby and Doja (like the artist).
Brayden’s career aspirations reflect his relentless determination and self-motivation. He envisions a future as a physician and intends to apply to medical school within the next year. His extensive work experience encompasses a range of clinical settings, including roles as an office manager at an ophthalmologist’s office, an office assistant in addiction rehabilitation, and engagement in pediatrics, medical-surgical, and care home environments. His professional history also includes roles as a care provider and a medical assistant, as well as a research associate, contributing to several published manuscripts. Brayden’s unyielding spirit and optimism are evident as he confronts and overcomes various obstacles, including health-related challenges. Despite these hurdles, his enduring positivity fuels his ambition to become a physician, with a particular focus on enhancing the patient experience, driven by his empathetic nature.
During his undergraduate career, Brayden participated in a student organization that actively raised funds for scholarships, thus assisting fellow students in gaining access to higher education. By providing support in various aspects, including essays and college applications, Brayden helped over 100 students from his hometown, a city known for its challenges in education, achieve their dream of attending college. Witnessing the direct impact he had on students from his hometown made him realize that he could be a catalyst for change. Brayden joined S4V with this in mind. He is excited about the prospect of continuing to bridge the gaps in education attainment as our Chief of Staff.
In his free time, Brayden loves to watch reality television, build LEGO sets, practice piano, explore nature through hiking, and try new restaurants around Los Angeles with his friends. He is a big fan of music. His favorite song is “How Deep is Your Love” by the Bee Gees, but his all time favorite artist is Nicki Minaj. In school, Brayden’s favorite subjects were Biology and English. His favorite foods include spicy pasta with chicken and chicken parmesan. As for fast food, Brayden glamorizes Taco Bell, which he calls “Taco Billy”. Brayden loves the show “Schitt’s Creek,” and some of his favorite movies are “The Devil Wears Prada,” “The Cat in the Hat” (live action), and “The Blind Side.”
Brayden embraces a personal philosophy that “God does not test those he does not intend on using,” underscoring his belief that everything happens for a reason.
