Our story starts with my beloved grandfather.
My grandfather, a Professor of Mathematics, grew up in the town of Bahjoi in Uttar Pradesh, India. When he was a child, there existed no school in his village. Despite this and many other challenges, he attributed his success to his own education. And upon retirement from academia, almost 50 years later, he started a school in his childhood community.
My grandfather passed away when I was 10, but his story has always stayed with me. I was eager to contribute to his mission. In high school, we fundraised $10,000 to install science laboratories at his school in Bahjoi, enabling students to complete the entirety of the national curriculum for the first time. This initial project, rooted in my family history, has since become so much more.
School for a Village reflects my grandfather’s legacy and life-long commitment to education.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support.
Warmly,
Anjali Gupta
